 Honduras Update -- July 24, 2007

A group of  28 people from LaGrange, Albany, Atlanta, and Tennessee traveled to Gualaco on June 15th.  During the week there they worked on pouring concrete in homes and distributing clothing for children in Gualaco, Las Delicious, and La Pena, and constructing a church building in Las Delicious.  About fifteen families from Las Delicious had to travel 5-10 miles each week to attend church services, so this facility will allow them a closer location.  The building was completed in early July by another group from LaGrange.

Update - March 2008

Honduran children may attend public school for free through the 6th grade, but are required to pay for the remaining six years.  Broad Street is involved in sponsoring many students for a cost of $300 per year.  More sponsorships are avaliable in this area.  We are also administering scholarships for university students from the Olancho area.  We have a Honduran/American missionary living in Gualaco to help with this.  This first year, we have fifteen total students with 13 attending the university in Juticalpa, one in Comayagua, and one in Tegucigalpa.  Applications for our second year will be avaliable soon, and selections will be in early fall.

A Mission trip is planned for a group from Broad Street to go to Honduras in late June.  Our Honduran missionaries are planning construction activities, and for us to do Vacation Bible Schools in the schools.  Volunteers to make the trip may contact the church office for more details.
